Year with few points and victories in the World Tour
Italian cycling, year zero.
In fact, looking at the scores obtained at the Fantacycling by our home riders in this 2022, the judgment can only be negative.
The difficulty in obtaining good results in the World Tour, the fate of most of our talents to act as wingmen for the captains and the sharp increase in competition from all over the world, have meant that the season has been stingy with satisfactions.
A serious blow then came at the end of March when Sonny Colbrelli , who seemed to be heading towards a campaign in the North as a protagonist, was forced to stop after a serious illness at Catalunya.
And, as if that weren't enough, at the end of the season we lost the strongest Italian cyclist of the last fifteen years: Vincenzo Nibali .
The 'weight' victories were few: the five stages in the Giro d'Italia ( Dainese, Oldani, Sobrero, Covi and Ciccone ) among the 8 in the main circuit, with the other three conquered at Catalunya by Andrea Bagioli and the two time trials between Tirreno-Adriatico and Dauphiné by Pippo Ganna . We did not win at the Tour (the last was Nibali in 2019) and at the Vuelta, while in the Pro Series races we saw the successes of Ulissi, Trentin, Ballerini, Masnada, Viviani, Moschetti and Marezcko .
So, waiting for better times and some young people who can make us smile again, always cheering on the riders who represent our country, we just have to go and see who made up the top 10 of the Azzurri in 2022:
Damiano Caruso 1218 points
Giulio Ciccone 874 points
Alberto Bettiol 838 points
Filippo Ganna 803 points
Alberto Dainese 771 points
Vincenzo Nibali 750 points
Domenico Pozzovivo 744 points
Andrea Bagioli 652 points
Matteo Sobrero 643 points
Samuele Battistella 638 points
