Record numbers for Pogacar and his teammates

There are records in cycling that seem almost unbreakable. This makes it all the more extraordinary when the day comes when the bar is raised even higher.

For a long time, people thought no one would ever surpass Eddy Merckx's record for stage wins at the Tour. Until Mark Cavendish did it.

Speaking of Cavendish, today, another seemingly untouchable record, one he himself had a significant hand in, finally fell. In 2009, the Briton accounted for 23 of Team Columbia-HTC's 85 wins that season. Those 85 wins in a single year remain a record, to this day.

And with that, the tally reaches 86, making UAE Team Emirates-XRG the all-time record holder for the most professional victories by a team in a single season.

Unsurprisingly, Tadej Pogačar tops the list with 16 team wins. Behind the world number one, however, the team also boasts three other prolific winners this year: Del Toro, Almeida, and Ayuso.

UAE Team Emirates-XRG has had at least 16 different riders win a race in each of the last four years. Last year and this season, no fewer than 20 riders have achieved victories. That's two-thirds of the team! And that's what gives the record total of 86 its true scale. What's more, fifteen of those 20 riders have won at least twice.

Brandon McNulty took his team’s 86th victory at the Tour of Luxembourg last Sunday.

And the season isn't over.
