Miguel Angel Lopez is no longer part of Astana Qazaqstan Team .

The news came this evening: the team has decided to fire the Colombian rider due to his involvement in Operation Illex.

It's a divorce between Lopez and the Kazakh team, it seems definitive. The team has in fact declared that it has come into possession of new news on a possible connection between the class of 1994 and the controversial doctor Marcos Maynar . After being suspended in August for investigations against him, the Colombian climber was reinstated in the team once the existence of investigations against him was denied.

The situation, apparently, had not been resolved completely, so as to lead to the drastic decision of these hours.

Miguel Angel Lopez, 28, returned to Astana last season after an unfortunate experience at Movistar . In 2022 he took fourth place in the Vuelta of Spain while in 2018 he collected two third places in the Giro and in the Vuelta.
