Favorites out, Italians far from the podium
Niklas Behrens is the new Under 23 world champion. The German runner won the title at the end of the race held today, September 27, on the Zurich circuit.
At the end of the 173.6 km scheduled, Behrens preceded in the sprint the Slovakian Martin Svrcek, silver medalist. A few seconds behind was the Belgian Alec Segaert, bronze medalist.
Among the favorites, fourth is Jan Christen, author of a long solo breakaway caught 10 km from the finish, fifth is Joseph Blackmore, sixth is Isaac Del Toro and seventh is Jarno Widar. Behrens, 20, rides in the Lidl Trek development team. This year he came second in the European road championship two weeks ago, beaten by the Dutchman Huub Artz.
Giulio Pellizzari first of the Italians in eleventh place, Francesco Busatto twenty-first.
