We will have to wait for the tenth stage with Le Mont-Dore Puy de Sancy
The 2025 Tour de France was officially presented yesterday : it will undoubtedly be a very tough Grande Boucle, with five uphill finishes, a 33km flat time trial and a hilltop time trial.
What is striking, however, is the absence of mountain stages in the first week or so: of the first four stages, two will be dedicated to fast wheels, while two will be dedicated to explosive riders and the possibility of a breakaway reaching the finish line; then the individual time trial in Caen and then two more finishes on short ramps in Normandy and Brittany. Over the weekend , which will conclude the first week, there will be two stages in which a sprint finish with a compact group is very likely.
To see a mountain stage we will have to wait until Monday 14 July with the Ennezat-Le Mont-Dore Puy de Sancy, where the riders will face six GPMs and the uphill finish at Puy de Sancy (3.3 km at 8%).
From here on, the Tour will become very tough with many stages and high altitude finishes in historic cycling locations, such as Hautacam, Peyragudes or Mont Ventoux. To see the challenges between the big names in the general classification, we will most likely have to wait until the second week of racing, from the tenth stage onwards.
