Tour de France: Evenepoel's emotion and the uphill triumph

An Evenepoel was thrilled and amazed by the result: "I'm shaking with emotion ," confessed Remco, initially searching for the right words.
"At the start of the stage, I actually wasn't feeling very good, but then things got better and better. Suddenly, you find yourself on the road with the best cyclist of all time, who's pushing at a blistering pace up the climb to help Isaac (Del Toro) take the win. I didn't expect Isaac to attack again, but he tried twice anyway. The final sprint with 400 meters to go was perfect, because it gave me the lead. I'd studied this climb at least twenty times during the training camp . It's amazing to finally win right here."

"This is also a response to all the criticism , to those who claimed that I wasn't able to go fast uphill and to all the other similar rumours. This success means a lot to me and to everyone around me. It's not easy to beat riders of the calibre of Tadej and Del Toro at high altitude, so when an opportunity like this presents itself, you have to seize it. This shows that I've made a leap in quality ."

"It's incredible that I'm finding my best form ever in this Tour. Now I have to recover well so I can aim for victory again on Tuesday, in the time trial."

Evenepoel now sits in second place in the overall standings following Jonas Vingegaard 's retirement due to a crash. "It's terrible news. For Jonas and his team, but also for the spectacle of the race. After an accident like that, however, we need to reset and try to get the most out of it. I have to try to maintain this level in the final week. It's not over yet."
