Nick Schultz wins the first stage of the Volta a Catalunya with departure and arrival in Sant Feliu de Guíxols (173.9 km).

A breakaway of five men is resumed shortly before the attack of the Alt de Sant Grau, a climb that is too difficult to allow for a large selection: in fact almost one hundred riders remain in the group.

Nick Scultz tries the coup by anticipating the final sprint one kilometer from the finish line, Pogacar responds by accelerating at -300 meters, but it's not enough: the Israel Premier Tech rider triumphs by a few centimeters just ahead of the Slovenian and his Williams teammate.
