Thirteenth stage of the Vuelta, one of the hardest of the Spanish race: 134 km, over 4200 meters of altitude difference with the Col d'Aubisque, Col de Spandelles and arrival on the Tourmalet (18.8km at 7.7%).

Entertainment from the early stages: following the pace set by Jumbo on the Aubisque , Joao Almeida and especially Remco Evenepoel immediately broke away .

On the Col de Spandelles the group breaks up again with continuous attacks from the big names; Vingegaard and Landa also try in a joint attack. Halfway up the climb the situation calms down and over twenty runners join the lead.

The first half of Tourmalet flows without any particular jolts, with the Jumbo commanding the operations. -8 km from the end, Vingegaard launches the decisive attack and manages to distance himself from all his rivals . The Dane manages to increase his lead and wins solo on the highest peak of the Vuelta. Behind him, an extraordinary Kuss takes off to defend his red jersey which comes second. Third Roglic ahead of Ayuso , Uijtdebroeks and Mas .

In the general classification the three Jumbos are still in command with Kuss in the red jersey with 1'37" on Roglic and 1'44" on Vingegaard.
