The Frenchman from Visma-Lease a Bike surprised everyone with a lightning attack 2km from the finish line

Who would have thought it? Louis Barré (Visma-Lease a Bike) launched a lightning attack with 2km to go, taking home the stage 1 victory of the Deutschland Tour with a jaw-dropping performance. A truly world-class performance that has already reshaped the overall standings.
Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), winner of the prologue and the man to beat, had to settle for second place in a small group of riders, outsprinting Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek), who finished third. Rounding out the top six were Natnael Tesfazion (Movistar), Edoardo Zambanini (Bahrain Victorious), and Bart Lemmen (Visma-Lease a Bike), all 16 seconds behind the Frenchman.
Barré had started the day 14 seconds behind Del Toro, and honestly, no one considered him a real threat to the overall standings. Instead, the Frenchman defied all odds: he took a 10-second lead for the stage win, adding further gains in the finale, and overtook Del Toro to leapfrog into the overall lead with a 9-second advantage. A flawless maneuver, worthy of a true strategist.
Fellow rider Paul Magnier (Soudal-Quickstep), who had started just two seconds behind the leader, had attempted to make an early move alongside Barré at the intermediate sprint, located 2.5km from the finish on a final circuit. The two shared three and two seconds of time bonus time, respectively, before Barré decided to go solo, leaving Magnier to his fate.
The finale was merciless for Magnier: on the final climb towards the finish line he suffered a noticeable decline in his legs, being swallowed up by the group and finishing 1:16 behind the winner, thus slipping to 31st place in the general classification.
