In the days when Trento is the European capital of cycling, our thoughts immediately turn to who, in those parts, was born to become a champion of the pedal with 273 career victories: Francesco Moser . Seventy years old last June 19, "The Sheriff" enjoys the success of the review in which, of course, he also speaks of him in a documentary presented for the occasion entitled "Moser, scacco al tempo".

Despite the intense work in his vineyards and the many occasions of celebration, Moser manages to carve out time for his beloved bike. And it is while he is in the saddle that he responds to Fantacycling on the most anticipated race of the week: the men's road test on Sunday, on a route he knows very well around the city.

“ One thing is certain - says the champion from Palù di Giovo - what the professionals will do will not be a very hard course and will only be 179 km long. So I expect there will not be a large selection unlike the world races of over 200 km where many break away. The climb in the Povo circuit to be climbed eight times has only one challenging stretch but you can stay close to playing your cards in a short sprint ".

The favorites are well-known names for Moser: “ Colbrelli clearly, the national team will race for him. Then pay attention to   Evenepoel and Pogacar . It's true, he didn't go well in the time trial but he's a champion and I expect to see him up front ”.

And what race will it be for the Azzurri ?: "In the meantime, we must be careful not to let an escape go away from afar - says the former world champion and record holder of the hour - then if they make a too selective race they risk squeezing and helping the others teams. It will take patience ”. And a surprise for the fantamanagers? “For such a short run there are many outsiders. Like the Swiss or the French, to keep an eye on ”.

As he arrives home, Moser recalls how important the continental showcase is for Trento : “I'm happy that they organized the races in my land. We are showing our beauties and, above all, we are relaunching the use of bicycles in an area rich in cycle paths. It was worth it".
