Filippo Ganna is ready for the world time trial on Friday 11 August with the awareness that he can play a leading role.

After the astonishing victory in the track pursuit race , the Italian, already twice world champion at Imola 2020 and Leuven 2021, is looking for a historic trio, but must be careful of the competition, Van Aert and Evenepoel above all and the pitfalls of the course : “It's not bad – declared the blue – In the central part there is a descent with which to become familiar. Then, there's the last kilometre, which isn't exactly one of my favourites. A stretch of uphill with cobblestones is not exactly ideal and there will be a fight, but it will be like this for everyone”.

Even the wind could play an important role : “in the open parts it will be one of the main factors of the race. It will be necessary to limit any damage and perhaps try to earn something in those sectors. However, on the straights it will be possible to go very fast, a pity about the finish which will slow down the average a bit.  

The track and the road time trial are two different things, I know that well. But it gives some morale to know that you worked well before the date. Yes, I really want to take my iris and wear it, even if – he closes with a smile – now I have little desire to make any effort”.

Ganna will be one of the favourites, but perhaps Van Aert and Evenepoel start a step above him, and there are also the Swiss Kung and the always dangerous Pogacar. Make your last exchanges at Fantacycling always keeping an eye on the timer on the app which indicates the limit within which to insert your formation.
