Alfonso Eulalio (Bahrain-Victorius) wins the fifth stage of the Giro d'Italia, from Praia a Mare to Potenza (203 km).

In the early stages, a 13-man breakaway broke away, with the group controlling the action thanks to the work of Lidl Trek.

The leaders approach the climb of Montagna Grande di Viggiano with less than a 2-minute lead, but on the climb Ciccone lacks the men to continue the work.

Arrieta attacks at the front, with Eulalio reacting after a few km and reaching the Spaniard in the lead, while the pink jersey group progressively sinks.

The two go off alone, with more than a minute on their closest pursuers, but on the final descent Arrieta falls, it seems all done for Eulalio , but the Portuguese falls in turn .

The race reopens, but Arrieta takes the wrong path, but manages to incredibly rejoin in the finale and beat Eulalio , who consoles himself with the pink jersey. 3rd place for Silva .
