The Sicilian: "I had prepared myself for this moment, but so many emotions."

Damiano Caruso concludes his long career with the Gran Piemonte . It's a day that captures all the emotions he's felt over years of racing, sacrifice, and joy that's hard to put into words: "I have to admit there are so many emotions, even though I had prepared for this moment," Caruso said before the start. "This is the last of my career, but we can say we've also raced at a high level this season. Despite the fatigue, I can be proud of having completed my career, racing two Grand Tours in quick succession . I was able to support Eulálio in the race for the Maglia Rosa and watch him win the Maglia Bianca. And then, immediately after, I managed to reach the Champs-Élysées, which was another of my goals this year." And now the Ragusa native can enjoy the final 180 kilometers on the roads of the Gran Piemonte. "I'll honor my role as captain on the road and try to give it my all until the end. And then I'll start again in my new role as sports director."
Damiano Caruso, in his career, won a stage at the Giro d'Italia and one at the Vuelta in 2021 , and took second place in the overall classification at the Giro in the same year.
