Professional cycling is a spectacular yet brutal sport. Ridden at high speeds wearing little more than a helmet and a few centimeters of Lycra, every fall can turn into a nightmare of broken bones and weeks away from racing. The 2026 season is the clearest demonstration of this: injuries have been relentless, from the first day of racing until the middle of summer.

Back in January, at the Tour Down Under, an almost surreal episode had set the tone for the season: a kangaroo swooping into the peloton contributed to a series of crashes involving, among others, Jhonatan Narváez and his UAE Team Emirates-XRG teammate Jay Vine . From there, the injury crisis never stopped: from the Giro d'Italia to the Tour de Suisse, where Urška Žigart (AG Insurance-Soudal) suffered a fractured jaw after falling on a rough road surface. Training sessions also proved treacherous: Mara Roldan (Picnic PostNL), already recovering from a crash at the Giro, suffered a skull fracture during a training session in early July.

Several riders had to withdraw from the Tour de France before the Grande Boucle even got underway. Among them, Žigart herself, Cat Ferguson (Movistar)—who crashed at the Giro d'Italia—and the highly anticipated Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike), forced to withdraw due to an infection following an elbow injury. And then there are those who started the Tour but were immediately forced to withdraw: such as Clément Berthet , who crashed in the team time trial in Barcelona on the first stage.

Below is a complete summary of the current injuries in the men's and women's peloton, including the team, type of injury, and date. This is crucial information for fantasy cycling fans: checking this list before selecting your riders can make the difference between victory and defeat.
