The New Zealander precedes Tesfatsion and Zimmermann in a narrow sprint

Laurence Pithie (Groupama FDJ) wins the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, a 174.3 km category 5 Australian race.

The first part of the race flows without any particular twists: a breakaway is formed by 4 local riders (restarted during the penultimate lap) and Onley's retirement is reported due to a fall on the downhill.

The group arrives compactly at the last passage on Challambra Crescent. Many tried to go further, including Bennet , Narvaez and Plapp , but were unable to make a difference. Around 20 runners go down the hill together in the leading group.

3 km from the finish line Quinn Simmons tries a solitary attack, but is caught in the last kilometre. The sprint finish at the photo finish rewards Pithie who, by a few centimeters, precedes Tesfatsion and Zimmermann .
