Modern Adventure Pro Cycling has officially announced the renewal of British rider Leo Hayter , who will remain with the team for the 2027 season. This news tells a story of recovery, trust, and patience.

Hayter, one of the leading Under-23 talents a few years ago, returned to racing at the end of last season after a year off the bike and the end of his contract with Ineos Grenadiers. In August 2024, he left the British team, revealing a long battle with depression.

The 25-year-old signed with George Hincapie's team this year, but his season has been repeatedly interrupted by physical problems: a back injury in the spring and, late in the year, a bout of pericarditis . His recovery, however, is already planned, and the goal is to be back to his best in 2027.

"I'm really happy to extend my contract with the team. What I initially saw as a springboard to return to the top of the sport has transformed into a team that I consider the ideal environment in which to grow," said Hayter.

The rider then looked back on his year: "I had a difficult season due to a back problem that held me back until July, but from then on I really felt like I'd made a step up in my game. I've had the team's full support and trust throughout the entire journey, and I'm happy to have repaid them with two professional podium finishes in the second half of the year. Unfortunately, my already short season was further shortened by the diagnosis of pericarditis. The recovery is frustratingly long, but together with the team doctors, we have a plan to present myself at my best next year."

Season numbers. Hayter, winner of the 2022 Giro d'Italia Under-23, has completed just 19 days of racing, including the Tour de Sibiu and the Tour de Luxembourg. His best result was fifth place in the TPC en Nouvelle-Aquitaine stage race in August.

His focus is already on the future: "Once I'm fit, I'm looking forward to building on this year's small successes, continuing to work to support my teammates, and turning my podium finishes into victories when the opportunity arises."

A stable team. Modern Adventure had a positive debut in the peloton, with five victories, including the Tour de Wallonie won by Ben Oliver . For 2027, the roster seems largely unchanged: all the 2026 riders are under contract, including Oliver, Robin Carpenter , and Stefan De Bod .

Co-founder George Hincapie is confident that much more can come from Hayter once he overcomes his illness: "We're really excited to continue with Leo. He's a talented rider and has shown what he's capable of when he can build momentum. We look forward to supporting him in his recovery and helping him continue his journey. We believe there's still a lot to see."
