Fantamanagers struggling with difficult choices: let's find out which ones

The Vuelta di Spagna which starts on Friday 19 August from Utrecht, in the Netherlands, with a team time trial, will be the race of great doubts to be resolved just before the start.

It will not be easy to form a team for the fantamanagers, struggling with the latest choices and, for many, with few changes available. The Iberian race does not have an absolute favorite, as in past years, but a lot of contenders whose conditions arouse various concerns or, at least, few certainties and many question marks.

This is the case of Primoz Roglic : the Slovenian of Jumbo Visma, winner of the last three editions, returned to cycling a few days after retiring from the Tour de France. The discovery of having fractures to two vertebrae alarmed those who bet on him and now all that remains is to wait for a definitive response on his participation.

The direct opponents do not seem to be better off and only the road will define the roles in the various teams. As in the case of the Ineos Grenadiers, with a Richard Carapaz who appeared out of shape at the last Tour of Poland while Pavel Sivakov, Teo Geoghegan Hart and Carlos Rodriguez seem to be doing better. But we know that the Vuelta Burgos has already given indications in the past that have not turned out to be true.

And what about the Bahrain Victorious with a Mikel Landa far from the leaders during the Spanish race and who has to fight the competition of Jack Haig and Gino Mader at home, not to mention a possible call-up of Santiago Buitrago , who appeared in better shape than to comrades.

Or of the Bora hansgrohe, present at the Vuelta in Giro mode with Jay Hindley, Wilco Keldermann, Emanuel Buchmann (and Sergio Higuita ): who will have the leg of the best days? For now it's a mystery.

Speaking of skepticism, we must also mention Simon Yates with his solo victories and crises without answers, Miguel Angel Lopez, still looking for a prestigious result since returning to the Astana jersey, Enric Mas , great climber but victim of himself on the descents, and Joao Almeida , never at ease on the big climbs.

And let's not go into the merits with respect to the roles of the eternal Vincenzo Nibali, Alejandro Valverde and Nairo Quintana , even if for the first two it will be the last three-week stage race of their career: what can we expect?

Finally, the Quick Step Alpha Vinyl, with the loose cannon Julian Alaphilippe and with Remco Evenepoel , recent winner of San Sebastian, which could be an almost obligatory choice in a Vuelta so difficult to predict. But given the precedents and its difficulties in such long stage races, would you feel like taking a risk?

As you can see, there are still many questions to be answered. We at Fantacycling will try to give you some indications by presenting the path, with a dedicated video in the coming days that you will find on our You Tube channel, and with the usual ' Tier list ' that we will build together with you from the community.

So let's go on towards the Vuelta and its thousand unknowns.
