Analysis of the strongest teams, Italy must invent the race

Here we are. On Sunday, the Road World Championship for professionals is held in line on a 266 km course with almost 4,000 meters of elevation gain. Despite the absence of radios, and therefore of the continuous connections between the flagships and the riders, there will still be teams to take into consideration thanks to the numerous options available.

And Belgium can only start from pole position thanks to the presence of Wout Van Aert and Remco Evenepoel , two champions who guarantee different solutions during the race. At the start there are at least three other athletes to mention and who will work for the captains: these are the experts Jasper Stuyven, Quinten Hermans and Yves Lampaert . The only doubt is about the strategy: last year, at home, the team did not seem to be on the same wavelength. Will they find the right harmony?

Then there is France, which won the last two World Cups with Julian Alaphilippe. The outgoing champion is at the start despite the fall at the Vuelta which caused him some physical problems, and for this reason his condition is to be verified: for this reason, the transalpines should play other cards in a decidedly competitive deck. Recalled Benoit Cosnefroy in the race, there are four other interesting riders such as Christophe Laporte, Valentin Madouas, Romain Bardet and Quentin Pacher , a man with a fast start and resistant on tears. Pavel Sivakov was also at the start, who appeared in good shape in the second half of the season. A team that will, we are sure, have a tough race: will they be able to make the three of a kind?

The national teams of Great Britain start on the same level, with Ethan Hayter and Fred Wright as leading men, Denmark, with Mikkel Honorè , Magnus Cort and the winner of the Tour of Luxembourg Mattias Skjelmose Jensen, and Australia aiming everything, or almost, on Michael Matthews to win the title at home. At his side Ben O'Connor, Jay Hindley and Luke Plapp .

Holland and Slovenia have in Mathieu Van der Poel and Tadej Pogacar their spearheads with two formations at their service: by the way, watch out for Dylan Van Baarle and Bauke Mollema for the 'orange' and Ian Tratnik and Ian Polanc for the team two-time winner of the Tour de France.

We close with Italy, which takes the field with Alberto Bettiol and Andrea Bagioli as first strikers and Matteo Trentin as director. The blue team will have to come up with something to have a chance for a medal with a team spirit that has characterized the work of the blue technical commissioners in recent years.

And you, who are you aiming for for this World Cup in Australia?
