EF announces the Colombian's farewell to cycling

Esteban Chaves has decided to end his professional cycling career. EF Team Education announced the Colombian's departure with a video on their social media channels.

Chaves, a professional since 2011, enjoyed his best seasons between 2015 and 2019, when he won a Giro d'Italia , a Giro dell'Emilia , two stages at the Vuelta a España, and three at the Giro d'Italia . In the Giro d'Italia, he came close to winning the general classification in 2016, when he fought until the end, even wearing the pink jersey in the 19th stage, but collapsed under Nibali's attacks on the decisive day with the finish in Sant'Anna di Vinadio.

2016 was undoubtedly his best year, in addition to 2nd place in the Giro, he finished 3rd in the Vuelta and then won the Lombardia in Bergamo.

In recent seasons, however, the Colombian climber has always seemed to struggle and has never had the pedal stroke to keep up with the best. His last victory dates back to 2021, in the fourth stage of the Vuelta a Catalunya (pictured ), while in recent years he has never achieved any notable placings, nor has he managed to shine in breakaways.
