Tour, 17th stage: Jasper Philipsen finally!

Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin Deceuninck) wins the 174.1km stage of the Tour de France from Chambéry to Voiron.

The stage was spectacular and hotly contested from the very early stages, with several breakaway attempts in the very undulating first part: however, every attack was blocked and the group, although reduced, reached the top of the Col de Prés in a compact group.

On the subsequent descent and the steep climb to Saint-Jean d'Arvey, a 16-man group managed to break away, but in the yellow jersey group, the Decathlon riders pushed hard for Kooij and managed to close in on the leaders. About thirty seconds behind, Pedersen took the lead and rejoined the breakaway.

A new group led by Philipsen tries to react from behind, but he is unable to close the gap, while the big guys at this point leave the path open to the attackers.

With 60 km to go, following a new push by Pedersen, 6 men managed to get away: together with the Dane, Healy, Engelhardt, Planckaert, Stuyven and Kwiatkowski gained an advantage.

After the intermediate sprint won by Pedersen, Stuyven breaks away and goes off alone, while a group of 40 men, a minute behind, tries to close the gap. On the final climb, this group manages to catch Stuyven, resulting in a narrow sprint .

Van der Poel works perfectly in the sprint and Philispen capitalizes ahead of Schmid and Kooij .

This reopens the race for the green jersey, with Philipsen now just 7 points behind Pedersen.

The big names all arrive together with almost 9' of separation.
