Meeus and Andresen beaten, Merlier and Girmay involved in a fall
Jonathan Milan won stage 17 of the Tour de France, 160.4 km from Bollène to Valence.
The day's breakaway, on a stage without any major difficulties, consisted of four riders: Vincenzo Albanese, Quentin Pacher, Jonas Abrahamsen, and Mathieu Burgadeau. But the peloton, led by Lidl Trek and Soudal Quick Step, controlled the lead and allowed their sprinters to compete for the overall victory.
Abrahamsen was the last to give up, four kilometers from the finish. A crash cut Tim Merlier and Biniam Girmay off from the win. The sprint was narrowly contested, and Milan won the second stage of the Tour ahead of Jordi Meeus and Tobias Andresen. Thanks to this win, the Lidl Trek rider increased his lead in the green jersey standings over Tadej Pogacar.
The latter retains the yellow jersey while awaiting the Alpine stages scheduled for tomorrow and Friday.
