The Dane will begin a period of training at altitude before his season debut
There's still a few months to go, but everyone is waiting for the duel between Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar at the Tour de France. The Slovenian champion, this season, is trying to change his strategy by also running the Giro d'Italia , thus hoping, in addition to achieving a historic double, also to arrive at the Grande Boucle , in a better condition than that of 2023 (in which he was back from the injury after Liège-Bastogne-Liège).
On the other hand , Jonas Vingegaard , however, does not seem to be upset. The Dane has already undergone a first training camp with the team and is now preparing to undertake a training period at altitude on Teide , before the seasonal debut scheduled for 20 February at the O Gran Camiño .
“He comes out of retirement very well – declared the sporting director of Visma | Lease a Bike Maassen to the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet analyzing the first phase of the preparation – He was with all the guys in Spain and we are happy with what we saw. We sent all the kids who will be going on the high altitude retreat home a little early, so that they can spend two weeks with their family before tackling the high altitude retreat for three weeks.
Jonas has had a fantastic year, so we still expect a lot from him. He is one of the favorites of the Tour and obviously we are aiming to win it again, but obviously it won't be easy with Pogacar, Evenepoel and Roglic."
La Visma | This season, Lease a Bike will also be able to count on two young talents Cian Uijtdebroeks and Matteo Jorgenson , who have already shown off in 2023, making the fortune of many also at Fantacycling: “Cian is very motivated. Vingegaard will race with him at the O Gran Camiño and the Tour of the Basque Country. We also expect a lot from Matteo. Jonas will be happy especially for these two riders, plus we also have some young guys who come from our development team and who are doing really well."
