Daniel Martinez won the fifth and final stage of the Volta Algarve, from Faro to the 165.8km Alto do Malhao. The Colombian preceded Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick Step), winner of the Portuguese race, and Thomas Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) on the uphill finish. Excellent fourth place for Christian Scaroni (Astana). Nothing to do for Wout Van Aert (Visma) who tried to attack from afar together with Ben Healy but was caught 3km from the finish line.

For Martinez (Bora hansgrohe) it is the second stage success while for Evenepoel it is the third victory of the Volta Algarve.
