Pogacar 'settles' for second place
It was a clear solo victory for Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) won the first women's race of the Beking Monaco criterium, while Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) won the men's race in a three-man sprint.
"There was a huge crowd supporting the event, and it's great to see how cycling can bring so many people together—especially considering this isn't a traditional race, but an event that combines sport, entertainment, and social projects to help young people get involved in the sport," Milan said in a press release from the organizers.
"The pace was high from the start, and in the end I managed to win against the incredible Tadej Pogačar and home favorite Victor Langellotti. I had a lot of fun."
The 48km, 35-lap men's criterium, won last year by Pogačar, was contested by 35 riders on Sunday and was part of a schedule that also included a Pro-Am charity race—where 15 teams of professionals, ambassadors, and amateurs competed earlier in the day on the same criterium course—as well as two children's races. The women's pro-criterium was a new addition to the event's fifth edition this year.
