Third breakaway to the finish line in three stages in line
Quinn Simmons (Lidl-Trek) wins the fourth stage of the Tour Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes from Le Puy-en-Velay to Montrond-les-Bains (167.4km).
After a long battle, a 12-man breakaway managed to form, gaining a maximum lead of just 2 minutes. The peloton kept the attackers under control, especially the teams with fast riders.
In the final 35km flat stretch, Visma and Tudor work for Van Aert and Trentin.
The group seems to be closing in on the last 10 remaining attackers, but in the final kilometers they gain a few seconds.
Incredibly, the breakaway held on in the final stages, despite a very long straight.
The victory was a matter of contention in the sprint: Simmons anticipated the sprint and held on to the finish line. The American beat Fisher-Black and Vercher .
The yellow jersey group reaches 4" and is held by Van Aert. Everything remains unchanged in the general classification. Tomorrow is another easy stage, with a possible solid finish.
