The Tour de France has lost another big name, with Florian Lipowitz crashing during the individual time trial of stage 16 and retiring.

The German was temporarily running second in the test, having set the fastest time on the downhill . Unfortunately, on a left-hand bend in a fast section that followed, the Red Bull rider lost the front end and crashed violently into the barriers.

The 2000-born player retired immediately after suffering a blow to his head and right shoulder.
The Tour thus loses another protagonist, after Vingegaard's withdrawal on Sunday, with Lipowitz who was momentarily in 5th place, 6'48" behind Pogacar and in full battle for the podium, just 50" away.
