Van Aert crashes and retires while leading with the Dutchman
The Zilvermeercross provided an epic race: under heavy snowfall, on frozen ground, Mathieu Van der Poel triumphed alone with more than a minute's advantage over Aerts.
Van Aert made the race a close one, managing to catch up with Van der Poel halfway through the race. The two created a gap, while the snowfall intensified and made the terrain nearly impassable.
Risks are just around the corner and Vdp also falls , but manages to avoid consequences; as often happens, fate is against Van Aert : the Team Visma rider also slips, takes a blow to the left side of his body and is forced to retire .
Van der Poel thus won alone in Mol, second place for the Belgian Aerts , third the Spaniard Orts .
