The Women's Tour Down Under traditionally opens the Women's WorldTour season, promising spectacle and uncertainty right down to the last metre. From January 17th to 19th, three stages covering approximately 394 kilometers will create a more open race than usual, thanks to the absence of the classic final climb of Willunga Hill in its most selective form.
The first stage , starting and finishing in Willunga , offers a rolling course but without any major concentrated elevation gain. It will be a day suitable for punchers and endurance sprinters, with the risk of fans and natural selection.
The second stage , from Magill to Paracombe , is perhaps the most tense: continuous ups and downs, narrow roads, and a challenging finish will make it difficult to control the group. Attacks from afar and significant gaps could emerge here.
The race will likely be decided on the third stage , from Norwood to Campbelltown , with the dreaded Corkscrew Road tackled several times. A short but extremely tough climb, with gradients approaching 16%, it's ideal for explosive climbers and athletes capable of repeated maximum efforts.
Without a long, steady climb to judge, the list of contenders for the final victory is longer than ever.
Among the most anticipated names is Noemi Rüegg , the defending champion, who arrives in Australia aiming to defend her title. Also watch out for world champion Magdeleine Vallieres , capable of handling any type of terrain.
The home crowd is dreaming of Neve Bradbury , an Australian who's rapidly improving and particularly suited to short, steep climbs. Marion Bunel, on the other hand, represents the pure climbing card, ideal for making a difference on the Corkscrew Road.
Eyes will also be on Amanda Spratt , a veteran of the group and a symbol of Australian cycling, always competitive on home roads, and on Gaia Realini , who could take advantage of the steeper slopes to gain precious seconds.
Among the luxury outsiders are Mavi García , Chloé Dygert – a possible protagonist also in the stages – and Ruby Roseman-Gannon , ready to play her cards in front of the Australian crowd.
