The young New Zealander wins a historic silver medal in the U23 time trial at the World Championships after switching from local cycling to the Red Bull-Bora team in just a few months

Six months ago, Nate Pringle wasn't even registered with a UCI team. On Monday, he stood on the podium at his first World Championships , taking a stunning silver medal in the Under-23 time trial, among some of the best young talents in world cycling.

The 21-year-old New Zealander began the 2025 season with local team Oxford Edge Cycling, before joining Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe Rookies last March after contacting the team directly via email. From then on, he was immediately thrown into the mix, even competing with the WorldTour team on several occasions.

Despite limited experience in UCI time trials (only one race before these World Championships in addition to the U23 national title), Pringle surprised everyone by taking the silver medal on the difficult course in Kigali .

His success was part of a great day for the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe Rookies team, which placed three riders in the top five with Lorenzo Finn fourth and Callum Thornley fifth, confirming the excellent work done by the WorldTour team's development line-up.
