Jakobsen joins Visma-Lease a Bike with immediate effect

Not even two weeks have passed since Picnic-PostNL announced Fabio Jakobsen's departure with immediate effect, and Visma-Lease a Bike has already put the seal on the deal: the Dutch sprinter is officially a new rider for the Dutch team, with a contract that will keep him there until 2028.

A market coup that won't go unnoticed by fantasy cycling fans. Jakobsen, 29, brings with him an impressive list of victories: 46 professional victories, including a stage at the Tour de France , five stages at the Vuelta a España, two editions of the Scheldeprijs, and the 2022 European road race title. These numbers are tempting for those who manage virtual teams, but beware: in recent years, the sprinter's performance has been affected by serious health problems, culminating in double iliac artery surgery in early 2025.

"I've been racing against this team for several years, and seeing everything they've achieved over time, with that consistency at the highest level... wearing these colors is a dream come true," Jakobsen himself said after signing.

His words reveal great motivation and a desire for redemption: "My goal is to get back to the level where I can compete at the highest level and fight for victories. As a sprinter, you never win alone, so being part of a strong team is essential. I believe this is one of the best performance environments in the world," he added. "I think we can learn from each other and continue to improve together. There's a lot of work to do, but I'm convinced this is the right environment for progress."
