Future scenarios: the Covid nightmare returns

What will happen now at the Giro d'Italia after Remco Evenepoel's farewell?

With two weeks left in the race, the fight for the pink jersey is very open with the top five in just 22 seconds.

But the Covid theme is still scary. First Clement Russo, then Giovanni Aleotti and Nicola Conci, then Filippo Ganna, Rigoberto Uran and the world champion, all positive. Names to which other riders could be added over the next few days. So much so that the Giro management has made it compulsory to wear a mask in all areas in contact with the riders.

The hope is that the Giro doesn't lose other protagonists but rather than talking about tactics, there is concern among the teams for what could still happen.

Will the Ineos Grenadiers , with five riders in the top 15, keep the race under control or could there be breakaways and attacks from afar capable of worrying them?

Primoz Roglic , who appeared in the best shape on the climb, will he invent something on the mountains? Will there be other twists? The road from here to Rome is still long, for some even too long.

The updated general classification:

Geraint Thomas Ineos Grenadiers 34:34:27

Primoz Roglic Jumbo-Visma 2″

Tao Geoghegan Hart Ineos Grenadiers at 5″

Joao Almeida UAE Team Emirates at 22″

Andreas Leknessund DSM st

Alexandr Vlasov Astana at 1'03”

Damiano Caruso Bahrain Victorious at 1'28”

Lennard Kamna Bora-Hansgrohe at 1'52

Pavel Sivakov Ineos Grenadiers at 2'15”

Jay Vine UAE Team Emirates 2'24”
