Snow and entertainment on the race roads

Since 1971, when it made its debut in the Corsa Rosa, it has been one of the symbolic climbs of the Giro d'Italia. In 1999 Pantani wrote one of the most beautiful pages of his legend here, winning with the snow on the side of the road. And today, to challenge the slopes of the Gran Sasso d'Italia, with arrival in Campo Imperatore, were the cyclists with e-bikes, engaged in the seventh stage of the Giro-E 2023 edition, the toughest.

A really good test for all those who crossed the finish line, but above all an unforgettable memory.

The stage Pratola Peligna-Gran Sasso d'Italia (Campo Imperatore) 75 kilometers for 2,100 meters of positive difference in height.

It is the first uphill finish of the Giro-E, which reaches an altitude of 2,130 meters above sea level. The last five kilometers are tough : gradients between nine and ten per cent, with peaks of 13 per cent. If there is one certainty, it is that without the engines, very few of the participants in the stage would have managed to climb to the top. And this is the extraordinary aspect of the event: allowing everyone cycling experiences hitherto reserved for the few.
