Battistella, Milan, Aleotti, Piccolo and Bagioli: men from Fantacycling
The farewells of Vincenzo Nibali and Sonny Colbrelli have left a huge void in Italian cycling. And after a 2022 that left us few satisfactions, let's try to look optimistically to 2023 and ten runners under 25 years of age who could give you points for Fantacycling (without spending too much of your budget) and, we hope for all our movement , can bring us good results during the season.
Samuele Battistella (7 fantamilioni) - The 24-year-old from Astana from Veneto can be a real surprise when it's a good day. The breakaways at the Vuelta, with two second places in the stage, and the seventh place finish in Polonia, bode well for a talented rider suited to undulating routes. His debut in 2023 should be at the Volta a Andalucia on February 1st but beware of Strade Bianche and Tirreno, his hunting ground.
Jonathan Milan (8 fantamillions) - The Olympic track champion shone in the second half of 2022, especially at the Tour of Croatia where he won two stages. At 22 we wait for him in some sprints but he will probably work often for the team, Bahrain, even if we are sure he will be able to carve out more space for himself during the season. To date he is confirmed for the Saudi Tour at the end of January, then Sanremo and Roubaix.
Giovanni Aleotti (4 fantamilioni) : winner and season ticket holder for the Sibiu Tour (twice), the 23-year-old from the Bora is expected to make a quantum leap. Good at helping his teammates, he can have his say in short stage races but not only: at the Montreal GP he finished seventh behind the big names. He will make his debut at the Tour Down Under in mid-January, then the Cadel Evans Ocean Race and, in May, the Giro d'Italia.
Andrea Piccolo (6 fantamillions, in the photo) : At 21 he showed excellent things in the second half of 2022, coming close to winning at least three races (and eleventh in Lombardia). EF is betting a lot on him and so are we, especially for the classics. To date we still don't know which races he will be involved in.
Andrea Bagioli (16 fantamilioni) : The 23-year-old from Sondrio is becoming a point of reference for Soudal Quick Step, even if we'd like to see him on the front line for his results rather than in support duties. The stage win in Catalunya and third place in Montreal, behind Pogacar and Van Aert, put some pressure on him ahead of the first races of the new year, whose schedule has not yet been confirmed.
