The Dane is skeptical about the Spaniard's arrival at Lidl Trek.

Juan Ayuso's move to Lidl-Trek continues to spark controversy. Having signed with the American team until 2030 after his early departure from UAE Team Emirates XRG, the Spaniard is destined to inevitably shake up some of the internal hierarchy thanks to his undisputed talent. However, this move doesn't seem to excite everyone, judging by Mattias Skjelmose 's comments on TV2 .

The Dane expressed surprise at the arrival of his younger colleague, who is likely destined to become the new point of reference for stage races, a role that until now has been his own. A prospect that has led him to question his own future.

“It was a bit of a strange situation,” Skjelmose admitted. “I heard about it quite early on, without the team telling me directly. I found it unusual. But yes, it will be exciting: a new challenge.”

The Danish rider emphasized how Lidl-Trek had built a project around him in recent years: "I base my decision on what the team told me. They've always reiterated that they believe in me and want to build a team around me. I don't think Ayuso was chosen as a domestique, so it will be interesting to see how we divide the roles."

The theme is also that of coexistence and shared goals: "We have similar ambitions. If he found it difficult to help Tadej (Pogačar, ed.), I don't know if he'll be willing to help me. But it could also be that he simply didn't fit in at the UAE. I don't know him well enough to judge. I hope we can support each other."
