"I want environmentally friendly cycling"

The races are at a standstill, the world goes on. And cyclists do not flee from current events. So Canadian Michael Woods takes sides to help the environment, just as the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow is underway. Even cycling - says Woods - can play its part.

The Canadian has calculated the emissions caused by professional cyclists, both for the flights necessary for the World Tour calendar and for the caravan of cars and buses following each race. And not only...

"My lifestyle was already good, but I'm improving it. I eat less meat, buy locally, minimize waste and cycle as much as possible even in my free time," says Woods , who resides in Andorra , also an ideal place for training.

Through his social media accounts (here Instagram ), Woods is also inviting comrades, supporters and enthusiasts to be more aware of the environment and what everyone can do. "What we do individually is a drop in the bucket. But everyone's commitment can still lead to something great" .

The climatic emergency will also become a priority for the world of cycling, therefore. And that's why Woods is raising awareness of the Tour de France and UCI , to lead by example.

A first victory, he has already obtained it from his team. In the next season, Israel Start-Up Nation will have a fleet of two fully electric cars and the others will be plug-in hybrids . The result? Carbon emissions will be reduced . Slightly, of course. But everything is valid for the world to come.
