The former Belgian rider gives his opinion on Remco's goals and the duel with Pogacar.

There is great curiosity to see the impact of Remco Evenepoel with his new team, Red Bull - Bora Hansgrohe and, before the start of the new season, many are wondering whether he can make a further leap in quality and compete with Tadej Pogacar .

Among the many authoritative opinions, one came from Johan Museeuw , a great former Belgian rider who won a world championship, three Paris-Roubaix races, and three Tours of Flanders. For Museeuw, Evenepoel “has to make a decision whether he wants to do the classics or not . For now, he wants to win the Tour de France. Okay, he's already won the Vuelta and in 2024 he finished third in the Tour. He has the ability to win it, but as long as Pogacar is there, it won't be that easy ,” Museeuw said in an interview with Domestique. “In my opinion, he can win all the classics and, obviously, all the time trials. It's not easy to make a decision whether to do the classics or focus everything on the Tour de France.”

Museeuw then analyzed the differences between current cycling and the one he raced in, between the 1980s, 1990s, and the early 2000s: “It's a different generation from mine. Now it's difficult because there are some riders who win a lot of races. I'm obviously talking about Pogacar, Van Aert, Van der Poel, Evenepoel ; cycling is like that at the moment. Maybe there's not much suspense, but I see it differently. For me, there is suspense, and I think it will stay that way for at least a couple of years . As long as Pogacar is around, he will win the Tour de France and other races . So yes, it's a different kind of cycling than that of my generation.”
