The reigning champion is preparing to defend the yellow jersey she won in 2024 with a clear strategy: focusing on her own performance and that of the team
Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney is 100% focused on defending her yellow jersey at the Tour de France Femmes. The winner of the 2024 edition has a very clear idea of her strategy: not worrying about her opponents, but focusing entirely on her own preparation and that of her teammates on the Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto team.
"I'm coming to this race without thinking about the others. They always ask me about the other athletes, but honestly, I'm not interested," Niewiadoma said. "I'm interested in my performance and that of my teammates. For the next race, I just want to make sure each of us is perfectly prepared, not only physically but also mentally—ready for the battle for the yellow jersey."
Last year's victory was historic, with a margin of just four seconds over Demi Vollering at Alpe d'Huez—the closest gap ever recorded in a Tour de France, whether men's or women's. Despite her success, Niewiadoma remains motivated: "The yellow jersey is still the yellow jersey. The 2024 victory will stay with me forever, but I still don't feel accomplished in my career."
Elisa Longo Borghini's recent triumph at the Giro d'Italia has given the Polish rider further inspiration: "Seeing her defend the pink jersey gave me extra motivation and confidence. I want to let my legs do the talking during the race."
The 2025 Tour de France Femmes will take place from July 26th to August 3rd, with nine days of racing entirely in France. The route will include iconic climbs such as the Col de Madeleine, the Col de Joux Plane, and the summit finish in Châtel. Canyon-SRAM will field a top-level team with Bauernfeind, Uttrup Ludwig, Bradbury, Paladin, Dygert, and Skalniak-Sójka supporting their captain.
