We start with the Amstel: route and favourites
The Amstel Gold Race opens the fiery week in the Ardennes that will end on Sunday 27 April with the Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
Fantacycling offers you the opportunity to play two special leagues dedicated to the Ardennes classics. You can find them among the public leagues on the app: sign up for the Challenge Gilbert to challenge the Prince of cycling in Amstel, Freccia and Liège: you have 225 fantamillions to field 9 riders and 5 exchanges immediately after the Amstel and before the Liège (Wednesday 23 April there will also be the Freccia-Wallone). Up for grabs are 'made in Gilbert' gifts.
Then there is the Ardennes League : also in this case with gifts for the best. All the info on our app and on the Fantacycling social channels.
The Amstel Gold Race , which takes place on Easter Sunday, is 255.9 km long: the only new feature on the route is the return of the Cauberg, whose summit will be just 2.5 km from the finish. The Cauberg will have to be tackled three times, with 34 very short climbs to tackle in total. Riders will have to be careful of the wind and the very narrow roads of the Netherlands.
Obviously, when we talk about favourites, the usual names come to mind: Tadej Pogacar , who already won the Amstel two years ago, and Remco Evenepoel , who returned after months of absence due to injury and has already won the Brabant Arrow.
It will be tough for the opponents but let's try to name some interesting names for your team: the eternal second Wout Van Aert, his teammate Tiesj Benoot, the never-say-die Ben Healy, the British Thomas Pidcock and the Swiss Marc Hirschi.
Also worth mentioning are Maxim Van Gils, Alex Aranburu, Romain Gregoire, Mattias Skjelmose, Thibau Nys and Neilson Powless.
Christian Scaroni, the Italian in the best form at the start of the season before a crash at Strade Bianche, also returns to racing.
