Tour de France Femmes: Vollering's triumph

Demi Vollering won the ninth and final stage of the Tour de France Femmes, starting and finishing in Nice, covering 99.2 km.

Four climbs of the Col d'Eze and another very hot day for the remaining athletes: Le Court Pienaar immediately struggled, and so did Marlen Reusser on the second lap of the circuit. The Swiss rider then crashed on the descent, restarted, but missed out on a spot on the final podium.

The strongest riders remain at the front: after Holmgren's attempt on the final lap, Niewiadoma attempts a climb, but Vollering keeps a watchful eye. The yellow jersey responds to the Polish rider's attacks and drops her near the top, remaining alone until the finish to win her third stage of the race and seal the overall victory.

Vollering is more than a minute ahead of Blasi and Niewiadoma.

On the final podium, alongside Vollering and Niewiadoma, was an extraordinary Elisa Longo Borghini , who finally managed to break the taboo of previous editions.
