It's like reliving the same movie, except this time the ending is less bitter. Four days after the mass protest at the start of the Giro di Lombardia , another car managed to enter the route of a professional race: it happened on the first stage of the Eneco Tour in the Netherlands.

On Wednesday, about 70 km from the finish , a driver entered the track right in front of the three escapees, traveling in the same direction. Fortunately, a race marshal on a motorbike intervened in time and directed the green car to the edge of the road. The car stopped, and the three leaders passed without injury.

The peloton was 1'44" behind, so by the time the riders reached the point, the car had already been pushed back. The risk, however, was certainly there. And it comes after a series of incidents that forced the riders to take position before the final Monument of the season.

A series of worrying episodes

After Tarling's death, unauthorized vehicles entered the course at the Giro dell'Emilia and the Coppa Bernocchi . At the Tre Valli Varesine , a police motorcycle traveling the wrong way disqualified two of Tom Pidcock 's teammates in the Pinarello Q36.5.

The race continued and the stage was won in a sprint by Tim Merlier (Soudal-QuickStep) ahead of Dylan Groenewegen.
