Alessandro Covi enjoyed a home victory. At the Giro del Veneto , the Jayco-AlUla rider won a small bunch sprint in Vicenza after a long, uphill sprint, earning his first victory of 2026.
The Italian climber decided to launch his attack about 300 meters from the finish line, on the slopes of Monte Berico , and held firm until the end. Behind him, Dane Anthon Charmig of Uno-X Mobility attempted to regroup with an almost equally stubborn progression, but was forced to surrender by a whisker. This is Covi's first victory since a stage victory in last year's Vuelta a Asturias.
The race was largely in the hands of UAE Team Emirates-XRG , who dominated a tightly controlled group in the final 50 kilometers, first with Pavel Sivakov and then with world champion Brandon McNulty . The designated captain, Frenchman Benoît Cosnefroy , however, was unable to repeat the success achieved last year in Veneto by his teammate Isaac del Toro and finished in third place.
Covi's triumph also puts an end to a rather long fast for Jayco-AlUla , who had not won since the Tour de France stage won by Mauro Schmid .
