The Briton is recovering from his Giro injury
Tao Geoghegan Hart will return from a long period of rehabilitation in 2024 with Lidl-Trek and with a prestigious goal in mind: the next Tour de France .
In an interview with the British newspaper The Times, the rider who will leave Ineos at the end of this season recalled the accident at the Giro d'Italia, which forced him to retire on the eleventh stage, where he felt he "had not succeeded to show what was in the tank. The only thing that mattered were the last three stages and that the situation was reversed. This is probably the only regret I have."
Geoghehan Hart had undergone surgery on the night of the accident, remaining in the Villa Scassi hospital in Genoa for 12 days due to a fractured hip and internal bleeding. He then spent nine weeks at a specialized sports rehabilitation center in the Netherlands, at Fysiomed Amsterdam: an arduous recovery to regain mobility in his knee, ankle and foot, as well as healing his left femur and muscles in the quadriceps and of the hip.
The move to Lidl Trek , in his opinion, was quite simple: “I think at Ineos they understood… cycling is becoming more and more competitive every year. You want to participate in the big races and have a chance. I would never regret not doing something results-wise, but I think not trying is what I might regret.”
So there is a good chance of seeing him at the start of the Tour, in June, from Florence. At 28 it could be the turning point for your career, which in any case has already been enhanced by the surprise success in the 2020 Giro d'Italia: “I have been a professional for 10 years and time has flown by. I definitely don't have another ten years ahead of me . The important thing is to get back to the level of May and do the best with what I can."
