The attack during the last lap was decisive. Silver for Vollering, bronze for Ludwig
The first important action is by Elise Chabbey : the Swiss attacks alone with 74 km to go, managing to gain over a minute on the group.
Three laps later the favorites start to move with shots from Van Vleuten , Kopecky and Vollering who form a small group, unfortunately without any Italians, in pursuit of Chabbey.
The new extensions by Vollering and Kopecky, during the penultimate lap, allow the Swiss to take the lead again, while Van Vleuten is very unlucky : she punctures twice and is forced to abandon her hopes of a medal.
With 12 km to go, the key moment of the race: the attack of the British Deignan and the Austrian Schweinberger , followed by Reusser (Switzerland) and Kopecky (Belgium). Vollering (Holland) is in great condition and manages to get back on the leading quartet together with Ludwig (Denmark). Just the latter launches the decisive action at -6 km starting together with Lotte Kopecky. The Belgian starts in turn on the penultimate climb managing to make a gap. No one from behind has enough energy to get back on Kopecky, who reaches the finish line alone and becomes world champion. Behind her Vollering manages to get back on Ludwig and takes the silver, while the Dane has to settle for the lowest step of the podium.
