Ciccone leader; Safety ganna; Tiberi hope for the future
Another not entirely positive cycling year for the blues, even at Fantacycling.
The best Italian of 2023 was Giulio Ciccone with 2009 points won. The Abruzzese remains the best hope for the general rankings. The victory of the polka dot jersey at the Tour stands out.
2nd place for Filippo Ganna with 1981 points, a good part of which were obtained at the Vuelta with a victory and three second places. In the spring the excellent 6th place in the Roubaix suggests possible future successes in the stone classics.
The eternal Damiano Caruso closes the podium with 1574 points: the '87 class takes 3rd place in the Romandie and above all 4th in the Giro d'Italia.
Jonatan Milan is the real Italian surprise of 2023 , for him 1164 points thanks to an extraordinary Giro with a victory, 4 second places and the cyclamen jersey.
Fifth position for Bagioli with 1125 points and many good feelings left with 2nd place to Lombardia. We need continuity to always stay at this level.
Another veteran is Trentin with his 1032 points despite no high points: 10th place in Flanders and a few placings between Dauphiné and Tour. Unlucky at the world championship.
To find the 7th best Italian we have to go down a lot: it's Bettiol with 762 points. The only prologue win Down Under in January; for the Ef Education rider a good 10th place in an attacking world championship.
Eighth place for Sobrero with 750 points thanks to some placings obtained in Spain at the beginning of the season (Basque Country) and at the end (Vuelta).
Mattia Cattaneo confirmed himself as an excellent teammate, especially uphill, but left few fantasy cycling joys: 732 points with good time trials scattered throughout the season.
The last rider who closes the Italian top ten is Tiberi , with 667 points, who missed almost the entire spring due to non-cycling issues. Together with Ciccone he remains the stage racer for the future.
