Pogacar dominates with over 10,000 points; Jorgenson and O'Connor the surprises
The 2024 Fantacycling season ended with the last stage of the Guangxi Tour on Sunday 21 October.
Let's analyze which runners have brought in the most fantasy points over the course of the year.
Obviously, dominating the rankings is Tadej Pogacar who won from the beginning of March until late October, conquering Strade Bianche, Volta Catalunya, Liège, Giro and Tour with six stages in both races, Montreal, Mondiale and Lombardia, for a total of 10,454 points , an absolute record at Fantacycling !
Behind him, with just over half of the points scored (5519), was a solid Evenepoel who took home the double Olympic gold medal, the world time trial and placings in Paris-Nice, Dauphiné, Tour, World Championships and Lombardy.
Third place on the podium for a sprinter: Jasper Philipsen with 3708 points. The Belgian stands out for his triumph at the Milan-Sanremo, three stages at the Tour and 2nd place at Roubaix.
Fourth and fifth place for Roglic (3600) and Van der Poel (3463): the Slovenian, after a difficult start to the season, managed to win the Dauphiné and the Vuelta, while the former world champion obtained most of his fantasy points in spring, winning E3, Flanders and Roubaix and placing in Ghent and Liège.
Sixth place tied for Vingegaard and Jorgenson , teammates at Visma, with 3393 points: for the Dane the season was marked negatively by the terrible fall at Itzulia, despite this he managed to win the Tirreno-Adriatico (before the accident) and the Tour of Poland, as well as second place overall at the Tour. Jorgenson was instead the rider able to partially save the season of Team Visma thanks to the triumph at Paris-Nice and Dwaars, also well placed at the Dauphiné, Tour and Olympics.
Ben O'Connor was the most surprising rider of 2024: the Australian scored 3376 fantasy points, thanks to his solidity throughout the season. 2nd at the UAE Tour, 5th at the Tirreno Adriatico, 4th at the Giro, 2nd at the Vuelta and 2nd at the World Championships.
The last two places in our top ten are shared by two Spanish climbers, namely Mas (2872) and Carlos Rodriguez (2795).
Honorable mention for Milan, best Italian with 2643 fantasy points, in 13th place overall.
